So despite the wrong title in the youtube title, I found the music video for one of my favourite songs of all-time, from my favourite album. The Nostalgia is oozing out of this one.
Destroy Rock & Roll by Mylo, was one of the cornerstone works that brought me into the world of electronic music. Now with some 13 years later since its release, I am still discovering more and more about the album. I've tracked down almost all the sample of the originals, read up on the creation of the piece, and studied the differences between the releases.
Now come to think of it, I'm no longer sure if it is this album that brought me to the sounds of the 80s or vice-versa. Indeed when I watched the clip below, I was instantly drawn to it.
It wasn't until several days later that I recognized the fact "Betty Davis Eyes" was sampled by Mylo. Was it that I like both songs because of the sound? or the orginal because of the sample deeply engrained in my mind? Who knows...
For the curious, from the Album:
- "In My Arms" samples "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes and "Waiting For A Star To Fall" by Boy Meets Girl.
- "Destroy Rock & Roll" samples elements from "Preamble-Great Divine Rectors Call" on the album "The Sounds of American Doomsday Cults" by Church Universal & Triumphant, Inc. featuring Elizabeth Clare Prophet.
- "Need You Tonite" samples "Stay With Me Til Dawn" by Judie Tzuke.
